Yumamia Inc., a Cairo-based food tech startup, revealed that it received a new equity investment from TV celebrity Chef Manal Al Alem. The startup has received total funding worth $1.3 million till date.
Founded by Belal El Borno and Mahmoud El Maghraby in 2014, Yumamia secured funding from two main investors including Faden Media, the in-doors out-of-home media network in Saudi Arabia and Publicis Groupe in France. Yumamia is a food delivery app that offers healthy food using premium ingredients and enables users to have healthy food at an affordable price.
The new investments will be used to fund Yumamia’s core menu development along with further expansion and diversification of its service in Egypt.
Aside from the cash injunction, Chef Manal will also be the company’s brand ambassador and will lend her culinary expertise in developing the menu.

Since officially launching its new app in January 2017, Yumamia has experienced double-digit monthly revenue growth, the company said.
Yumamia was ranked (#84) among Top 100 Startups in the Arab World 2017 by Forbes Middle East while its most recent investor Chef Manal Al Alem is ranked among The Top 10 Arab Women Social Media Influencers.
