CAIRO, June 18 (Sputnik) – A group of Egyptian public figures, including prominent Egyptian writers, journalists and community leaders, left for Russia on Monday to support their national team in the second 2018 FIFA World Cup game against Russia, local media reports.

“A few flights will also leave Egypt for Moscow to transport everyone interested in supporting Egypt national team,” local daily newspaper Youm7 reported early Monday.

Egypt players arrived in Saint Petersburg on Sunday and will hold a training session at the 64,000-seater Krestovsky Stadium before taking on Russia, who thrashed Saudi Arabia 5-0 in the 2018 World Cup opening match in Moscow, on Tuesday.

The team lost 1-0 to Uruguay in their first World Cup match.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the matches set to be played in 11 cities across Russia.
