A flock of 20 penguins has flown in to Cairo International Airport to begin their new lives living inside the Egyptian capital’s Ski Egypt indoor snow centre.

The penguins, which were flown in from China, are believed to be the first ever to arrive in Egypt.

The new colony of penguins is being established by the Futaim Group which runs Ski Egypt, which opened year ago, and Ski Dubai where it first established a penguin colony some five years ago, subsequently breeding the first penguins to be born in the United Arab Emirates.

At Ski Dubai revenue raised from tourists visiting the penguins is reported to be invested in a research in to penguin behaviour and to preserving their natural colonies in the Antarctic.
