Russia should have no problems against Egypt if ‘we play at our level’, says Russian sports official

Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Russian Football Union executive committee member Vitaly Mutko said on Sunday that the Russian national team should not have any difficulties with Egypt in the upcoming World Cup Group A  game on Tuesday if the team plays at its level.

“If we [the Russian national team] play at our level, than I don’t see any problems [in the match against Egypt],” Mutko was quoted as saying on Sputnik.

Mutko gave these statements to reporters while visiting the Russian team in their training session on Sunday in Moscow.

The Pharaohs will play Russia on Tuesday in St. Petersburg in their second match of the groupstage.

Russia won their first game against Saudi Arabia 5-0 while Egypt are in a must-win situation after losing to Uruguay 1-0 on Friday.

Egypt have been boosted be the return of star forward Mohamed Salah, who missed the opening game as he was still recovering from a shoulder injury sustained during the Champions League final last month.

In the third and final groupstage matchday, Egypt will play Saudi Arabia while Russia takes on group favorites Uruguay on 25 June.
