Egypt have been crowned champions of the 2023 Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship after beating Algeria in the final.
The tournament was held in Cairo, Egypt from 3 to 13 September 2023 and acted as a qualifier for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship, with the top three teams securing a spot in the competition.
As hosts, Egypt were placed in Pool A, winning their opening game 3-0 against Burundi, before losing with the same scoreline to Algeria to take part in the Round of 15.
Double consecutive 3-0 wins over Kenya and Morocco saw Egypt clinch a spot in the semi-finals, where they beat Cameroon 3-1 to set up another clash with Algeria.
In the final, Egypt managed to avenge their group-stages defeat, and won the game 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 20-25, 25-22) to win the title.
The title is Egypt’s ninth and their first since 2015, putting an end to Tunisia’s dominance over the past three editions.
In the third-placed playoff, Libya beat Cameroon 3-1 to clinch the bronze medal and a spot in the Volleyball Men’s World Championship.
