Only two Egyptian clubs will compete in the 2019/20 Arab Club Championship after the EFA passed a rule that prevents the top four teams from participating in the tournament due to their involvement in the CAF competitions.
Despite finishing in midtable places, Ismaily and Ittihad of Alexandria were chosen to represent Egypt in the tournament, with both teams starting from the round of 32.
Ismaily, who were knocked out from the round of 16 last year, will face Libya’s Al Ahli, with the first-leg taking place in Ismailia.
Meanwhile, Ittihad will be up against Kuwaiti side Al Arabi and will play the first-leg in Kuwait, before hosting the Gulf club in Alexandria for the return-leg.
Ittihad had reached the quarter-finals of last year’s competition, before getting eliminated by eventual runners-up Al-Hilal.
