Health Minister Discusses Cooperation With Fulbright Egypt

Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with Maggie Nassif, the Executive Director of Fulbright Egypt, one of the educational and cultural exchange programs of the United States, to discuss cooperation in implementing training programmes for employees of the ministry.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the meeting discussed opportunities for cooperation, which is the first of its kind between the Ministry of Health and Fulbright, in providing training programmes, fellowships, and scholarships for human cadres working in the sectors and agencies affiliated with the Ministry of Health.

Abdel Ghaffar added that the programmes and grants provided by Fulbright were reviewed, and the needs of the Ministry of Health and Population regarding those programs were discussed, especially in leadership qualification programmes, management sciences, and research, both by supporting and encouraging those wishing to study in the US, in a way that benefits the development of work systems in their work inside Egypt after the end of the programs, or by bringing in American experts to provide training programs inside Egypt for workers in the health sector.

He noted that the minister discussed opportunities for cooperation with the Fulbright Commission in supporting and refining the skills of students of nursing schools and technical institutes, through training programmes offered to students or reviewing curricula by American experts, noting that the ministry includes 12 health technical institutes and 388 nursing schools.

The meeting was attended by Ehab Kamal, the Advisor to the Minister of Health and Population for Vocational Medicine Education, Ola Khairallah, the Head of the Training and Research Sector, Effat Khalifa, the Advisor to the Ministry of International Cooperation and Community Outreach, Hatem Amer, the Assistant Minister for External Health Relations, and Dalia Rashid, the Supervisor of Grants and Loans Department, and Zainab Al-Sadr, the Director of the Statistics Department at the Ministry of Health.
