Egypt and Ethiopia face off at 2023 AFCON qualifiers on Friday

The Egyptian national football team will face Ethiopia on Friday at the Air Defense Stadium, in the last round of the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled in Cote d’Ivoire early next year.

The Air Defense Stadium will host the match at seven pm, Cairo and Mecca local time, as part of the sixth and final round of Group D in the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced that the national team’s coaching staff plan to rest Mohamed Salah during the match against Ethiopia.

In an official statement from the EFA, it explained that Vittoria decided not to rely on Salah during the Ethiopia match, scheduled for September 8.

Salah will participate in the second match during the camp against Tunisia.

The Egyptian national team, under Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria, qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations held in Côte d’Ivoire, after occupying the top of the group standings with 12 points, while Ethiopia ranked fourth with four points.

Egypt’s match against Ethiopia will be broadcast on beIN Sports, the exclusive broadcaster of all tournaments affiliated with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in the Middle East and North Africa.

The match will also air on OnTime Sports HD 1.

The Egyptian national team previously decided its qualification for the 2023 African Cup of Nations, after defeating Guinea in the last round, 2-1.

The Egyptian national team enters this match leading the fourth group standings with 12 points.

The Guinea national team came in the second place with nine points, and the Malawi national team was in third place with four points, the same as the Ethiopian national team.
