Senate President Faisal Al Fayez on Thursday met with Arab Parliament Speaker Adel Abdulrahman Al Asoomi in Cairo.
Fayez led a delegation to Egypt, following an official invitation from the country’s Senate President, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Fayez stressed the need for Arab parliaments to play a more effective role in serving the people and addressing the challenges facing the Arab world, particularly poverty, unemployment and economic development.
Also discussed was the current regional situation and ways to enhance Arab parliamentary action and initiate parliamentary diplomacy at various levels.
The importance of restoring security and stability to the Arab region, which is suffering from chaos and political conflicts, was also emphasised.
In the current stage, the priority of Arab parliamentary work should focus on achieving Arab economic integration and comprehensive economic development to address sustainable development challenges, Fayez said.
He reiterated the call for the formation of an Arab economic and customs union to enable the Arab world to confront the challenges of sustainable development.
Asoomi noted the Arab Parliament’s efforts to help resolve various regional crises and promote inter-Arab relations. He praised His Majesty King Abdullah’s efforts to enhance joint Arab action and bring peace to the region.
During their tour, Fayez and his accompanying delegation visited the Jordanian embassy in Cairo, and praised the embassy’s efforts to strengthen Jordanian-Egyptian ties, while also addressing the needs of Jordanians in Egypt.
