Former Interior Minister Mansour El-Essawi Passes Away


Major General Mansour El-Essawi, the former Minister of the Interior, passed away after a long struggle with illness. He had been receiving treatment in recent years, and he breathed a short while ago in a hospital.

El-Essawi took over as Minister of Interior in March 2011 in the ministry of Essam Sharaf, replacing the previous minister, Major General Mahmoud Wagdy.

Major General Mansour Essawy was born on September 18, 1937 in the city of Esna, formerly Qena Governorate – Luxor, now. He obtained his primary education in the city of Esna, and joined the Police College, graduating there in 1959. He began his police life in the Cairo Security Directorate.

He began his police life in the Cairo Security Directorate, and progressed through the ranks until he reached the Cairo Security Inspector, then an agent of the Cairo Investigation Department, then a Director of Giza Security in 1988, and continued there for 3 years.

He was appointed Assistant Minister of Interior for Northern Upper Egypt in 1991, then Assistant Minister of Interior for Central Upper Egypt in 1992, then First Assistant Minister and Director of Cairo Security in 1993, then First Assistant Minister of Interior for Public Security in 1995, then appointed Governor of Minya from 1996 to 1997.
